The Center of Excellence on Environmental Health and Toxicology (EHT) consists of 3 participating universities whose researchers have expertise in various related fields. The 3 participating universities are leading institutions i.e. Chulabhorn Research Institute / Chulabhorn Graduate Institute, Mahidol University (Faculty of Science and Faculty of Public Health) and Burapha University.
Work carried out by the Center of Excellence on Environmental Health and Toxicology (EHT): The focus of the research carried out by the Center of Excellence is in environmental health and chemical safety. This includes the development of chemicals for increased benefits to society and industry towards development of the nation, as well as the study of the toxic effects of chemicals that are being used for this development. Examples of the study of the impacts of chemicals on the environment and human health include: the study of genotoxic air pollutants resulting from the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, which are one important risk factor for the development of cancer; the study of the pathophysiology of disease in humans, from the early biological changes to disease manifestation; the development of new technologies that are more environmentally-friendly; the assessment of risk from chemically-related occupational exposures in industrial settings; and the contamination of food and water with chemicals that are used to increase agricultural yield, e.g. pesticides.
